Paris 2024 Judo Preview

The Judo events at the 2024 Paris Olympics are set to be an exciting display of skill and competition, running from July 27 to August 3. The event will take place at the Grand Palais Éphémère, a temporary venue near the Eiffel Tower, designed to accommodate over 8,000 spectators. A total of 372 judokas, split evenly between men and women, will compete in 14 weight categories, with a mixed team event concluding the judo competitions on August 3.

Team USA's judo squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics features a promising lineup across various weight divisions. In the women's -48kg division, Maria Laborde, a former Cuban national and World Masters Champion, brings experience and skill to the team. Angelica Delgado, competing in her third Olympics, represents the USA in the women's -52kg category, aiming to prove what she's truly made of. In the men's -73kg division, Jack Yonezuka continues his family's judo legacy, looking to make a strong impression in his Olympic debut. Lastly, John Jayne competes in the men's -90kg division, aiming to secure a medal for Team USA. The team is well-rounded, with a mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, poised to make a significant impact at the Games.

Kristine Jimenez, representing Panama in the women's -57kg division, is set to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She is a skilled judoka with notable achievements on the Pan-American stage at -52 & -57kg. Jimenez aims to make a strong impression and bring home a medal for Panama, showcasing her talent and dedication in this prestigious event.

The competition format will follow a single-elimination system with a repechage, allowing judokas who lose in the quarterfinals or later to compete for bronze medals. The mixed team event, introduced in Tokyo 2020, will also feature, highlighting the collaborative spirit of judo​​.

The qualification process has been rigorous, with the top 17 judokas from the International Judo Federation's world rankings in each weight category securing their spots. Having to compete over the past four years across the globe for their one shot.
